Thank you for offering to host a pop-up screening of Boom! Demographics Are Destiny during Financial Planning Week 2014.

I have put together this short briefing note for pop-up screening hosts, with a small request for a few pieces of information at the end.

What is the purpose of the pop-up screening?

We want to share Boom! Demographics Are Destiny with a very wide audience. Financial Planners and others in the world of retail financial services will find the themes explored in the documentary of interest, as should their clients and professional connections.

Who should I invite?

We envisage these pop-up screenings appealing to Financial Plannings, support staff, professional connections including solicitors, accountants and estate agents, local business people and politicians, and of course your clients who are in the Baby Boomer demographic. There is no overt branding of my firm Informed Choice within the documentary, so please feel free to present it independently without the fear of promoting another firm of Financial Planners to your clients or other connections.

Your pop-up screening could range from 5 to 500 people. Some pop-up screening hosts plan to show the documentary to guests at their offices, others have booked local cinemas. It’s entirely up to you.

What is the format of the documentary?

If you’ve not had the opportunity to watch it yet, the movie is 64 minutes long and features interviews with a series of experts discussing various topics relating to the post-war Baby Boomer generation reaching retirement age over the next twenty years. The documentary explores retirement planning, divorce and separation, defining diseases for Baby Boomers such as dementia, dying, before ending on a more positive note about the value of Financial Planning and making positive choices to live a fulfilled life.

The documentary is narrated by prize-winning personal finance journalist Paul Lewis, who you will know as presenter of Moneybox on BBC Radio 4. The interview and much of the background footage was filmed by Martin, and professional stock footage is also used for a more ‘cinematic’ experience. You can watch a trailer here.

How will I screen the documentary?

I will post you a copy of the movie on DVD as soon as I receive an email from you with the requested details outlined below. This is a Region 2 DVD which will work in any UK DVD player. You should test it before the date of the screening so we have the opportunity to replace your copy or provide it in an alternative format if necessary. You should screen the documentary on a large TV screen (with the size depending on the number of guests attending) or it can be projected onto a projection screen or blank wall in a dark room.

Do I need to introduce the movie?

You may want to say a few words about the movie and why you are hosting the pop-up screening before you press play. If you need some inspiration, here is how I introduced the movie at the IFP Annual Conference.

What about questions after the movie?

After pop-up screenings on Thursday 27th November and Friday 28th November, we will be running live Q&A sessions on Twitter. Please post your questions to @boomdocu and use the hashtag #boomquestions. The Q&A sessions will run from 1-2pm on each day, although we will of course pick up questions and answer them outside of these times as well.

What support can you provide to help promote the screening?

As soon as we receive the details requested below, we will send you (along with the DVD) a promotion pack including some movie posters, postcards and stickers. Feel free to promote your pop-up screening as you see fit (we trust you!) and use Social Media as well as traditional marketing to invite guests. If you would like us to set up an Eventbrite page so you can invite guests and track RSVPs, just let us know in the information requested below. If you would like me to record a personalised introduction, just let me know!

How can guests buy their own copy of the DVD?

Copies of the DVD will be available to purchase from 1st December here for £9.99 a copy, with free postage and packaging in the UK. The movie will also be available to rent or purchase online via Vimeo on Demand from 1st December, for $5.99 to buy or $2.99 to rent.

Isn’t there a book as well?

I’ve collaborated with Justin King, a Chartered Financial Planner and CFP professional from MFP Wealth Management in Christchurch, Dorset, to write a book covering the same topics in greater depth. The book also features extended transcripts of some of the interviews from the movie, and some of the interviews we were unable to feature. Ready, Steady, Retire! Plan Your Way to Success in a Redefined Retirement will be available to purchase here on 1st December and we will send each pop-up screening host a free copy as soon as it is received from our publishers.
